A transom interior door on this page refers to a door set in which the main door section and the upper transom are made as two separate parts within the same opening. A horizontal frame member separates the main door leaf from the upper transom.
Our standard configuration uses a 2.1 m framed main door section, with the remaining height used for the transom. This helps you achieve a balanced door proportion without increasing the height of the main door leaf.
The main door height and transom height are calculated separately according to your total opening size. Their proportion can be adjusted to match your door style, site dimensions and installation requirements.

The three configurations use different upper transom structures. You can select the required glass, panel or opening method according to the room and project specifications.
The upper section uses fixed tempered glass, with more than 10 options available, including clear and frosted glass.
The upper section uses a solid panel matching the material, colour and finish of the main door. Carved patterns, lettering, room names or project markings can also be added.
The upper section is made as a separate small window. Top-hung and side-hung opening methods can be selected according to the window size and operating requirements.

Functional Benefits of Transom Interior Doors
Wanbaoyijia transom interior doors place a separate functional section above the main door leaf. This allows the door set to add light, ventilation or decorative details without turning the complete door leaf into a glass door.
The glass is positioned above the main door leaf, allowing light to enter rooms and corridors without exposing the complete interior space.
An operable upper window allows air to circulate while the main door remains closed, which is useful for storage rooms, offices, classrooms and other spaces that need regular airflow.
The lower part of the door remains solid, while the glass is positioned at a higher level. This gives you more privacy than a full-height glazed door.
The main door leaf remains solid below the transom, providing space for the lock, handle and other door hardware.

Divided Transom Interior Door Structure
To reduce the risk of door leaf warping, Wanbaoyijia normally keeps the framed main door section at about 2.1 metres and uses the remaining height for a separate upper transom. For example, a 2.5-metre opening can be divided into a 2.1-metre main door section and a 0.4-metre transom.
This divided structure keeps the operable door leaf at a practical height and reduces the load on the hinges and frame joints. The main door section and transom are produced separately and then installed in the same opening, making installation easier.
Transom Interior Door Glass and Panel Fixing
For each transom interior door, the groove around the transom opening is machined according to the thickness of the glass or solid panel. A controlled installation gap is left to allow for changes in the wood caused by temperature and humidity. The glass or panel is then secured with matching glazing beads to prevent movement.
Sealant is applied around the glass or panel to improve sealing and reduce looseness and rattling during use. When the glass is supplied by Wanbaoyijia, tempered glass is used to reduce the risk of injury if breakage occurs.

In a project in Thailand, the storage room required continuous airflow. We designed an open transom fitted with a decorative openwork panel after the client felt that the opening looked too empty. The final design retained the ventilation function while giving the upper section a more complete appearance.
In a project in Nigeria, the wooden doors were installed on the ground floor. The client preferred not to use glass in the upper section, so we supplied a 12 mm solid wood transom panel. This created a more enclosed upper section while maintaining the appearance of the complete door set. The client felt that the design met the project requirements.

No. The glass or panel joints in the transom can affect the sound insulation of the complete door set, and an operable transom has additional opening gaps. A fixed transom normally provides better sealing than an operable transom. If sound insulation is important, the glass, frame, perimeter seals and installation method should be confirmed together.
It depends on the transom width, glass or panel weight and frame structure. A wide transom may sag in the middle if the horizontal section does not have enough support, which can place additional stress on the door frame. We confirm the transom size and reinforcement structure before production, especially for double and unequal double doors.
It depends on how the transom is constructed. Glass or panels fixed with removable glazing beads can normally be removed and replaced. If the glass is enclosed inside a fully assembled window sash, the complete sash may need to be replaced. Please tell us before production if you require a replaceable glass or panel structure.
Yes, provided that the opening has enough height and the existing wall and frame structure are suitable. Before production, we need the total opening width and height, wall thickness and existing frame details. Some renovation projects may require the original casing or upper wall section to be adjusted before the transom is installed.
Both options are available. Factory installation allows us to check the fit, sealing and appearance before packing. For long-distance transport or larger glass panels, the glass can also be packed separately or installed locally to reduce the risk of breakage. The glass thickness, dimensions, edge treatment and fixing structure should be confirmed before production.
