The Middle East is a relatively dry region, so solid wood doors are particularly prone to cracking. We had a hotel project in Egypt involving 98 sets of solid wood doors. To prevent cracking, we applied a coat of paint during both the rough and fine sanding stages to ensure the wood was sealed off from the air. We also applied PVC edging to the top and bottom of the door panels. Finally, we applied a topcoat to ensure the entire perimeter of the door leaf was fully sealed with paint, thereby reducing the likelihood of cracking. Two years have now passed, and the wooden doors have shown no signs of cracking; the client is very satisfied.
As solid wood doors are made entirely from natural timber, this can result in variations in colour within a single door leaf. Our Vietnamese clients do not favour solid wood doors with such colour variations, so the solution we proposed was to opt for dark-coloured paint—such as shades of black, grey or white—as these can mask the imperfections caused by the wood’s uneven colouring. Upon receiving the goods, our Vietnamese clients were very satisfied with our solution.
